Chatham Borough is the hub of the downtown, while Chatham Township contains more houses with bigger lots, farther from the town center. The Chathams border Short Hills, Summit, New Providence, and Madison.

Chatham has a train station with direct access to Midtown through Penn Station, offering a seamless commute for professionals and commuters. Additionally, Boxcar bus services are available for those who prefer alternative transportation.. The Milton Avenue School teaches children in grades Pre-K-3, and the Southern Boulevard School and Washington Avenue School are for children in grades K-3.
