Chatham Borough is the hub of the downtown, while Chatham Township contains more houses with bigger lots, farther from the town center. The Chathams border Short Hills, Summit, New Providence, and Madison. 
 
Chatham has a train station with direct access to Midtown through Penn Station, offering a seamless commute for professionals and commuters. Additionally, Boxcar bus services are available for those who prefer alternative transportation.. Chatham has a quaint shopping center with restaurants, coffee shops, and boutique stores, along with commuter parking and shopper parking.

The Milton Avenue School teaches children in grades Pre-K-3, and the Southern Boulevard School and Washington Avenue School are for children in grades K-3. The Lafayette School is specifically for children in grades 4-5. They also have the Chatham Middle School for grades 6-8 and the Chatham High School for grades 9-12. The Chatham Borough Farmers’ Market occurs every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. from June to November.
